This seminar reviews the current challenges with recruitment, how recruitment has changed over time, and presents innovative ways of attracting more talent.

Mike Godwin has held executive positions at multiple companies specializing in Human Resources and other compliance and/or business projects. Over the last two years, he has served as Vice President for Meridian Behavioral Health Systems, a 100 million in revenue 1200 employee hospital system with nine locations in six states, and for seven years before that he was the Vice President of Human Resources for Eggleston, a 700 employee not for profit government contracting agency with 18 locations. Mike has also been employed as an HR executive for over five years for Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. and has over six years of other company operations, sales, and HR experience.

Mike has a Master’s in Business Administration with an International Business concentration from the University of South Carolina. He studied in Dublin, Ireland as well as Columbia and Charleston, SC. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology with a Business minor from the University of Florida. He was as an adjunct professor in the Master of Professional Studies in Human Resources Management Program for Georgetown University. He currently moonlights as an adjunct professor for Old Dominion University for the Strome College of Business.

He is the former President of the Hampton Roads Society for Human Resource Management and is a current Board member for the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce and a past Board member for the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce. Mike holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) and the Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) Human Resources national certifications.

Shawn Owen is currently the Branch Selling Manager for Reliance Staffing, a PeopleShare Company. Shawn has been in the Hampton Roads community since 2002. During her time in Hampton Roads, she has also worked as the Business Manager/Designer at Interior Visions, Inc. for nine years and as a Court Agent/Billing Specialist at Atlantic Billing Associates for four years. Prior to moving to Hampton Roads, she was a Business Manager/Designer at Martin Interior Visions, Inc. in Richmond, Virginia for 13 years. Shawn has a degree in Interior Design from Alexandria Technical and Community College in Alexandria, Minnesota. Shawn is also very active in the community and volunteers with Roc Solid Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.

Milena Radovic is an attorney in the Norfolk office of Jackson Lewis, P.C. Her practice focuses exclusively on employment litigation, workplace training, and client counseling. She represents employers against claims brought under Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and tort claims, including assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent hire and retention, and wrongful discharge, in federal and state courts, arbitrations, and before federal, state, and local administrative agencies. In addition, she defends managers and supervisors in criminal proceedings related to workplaces incidents. Milena also provides client counseling, employee handbook review, and trainings on a wide variety of employment topics. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, P.C., Milena was an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney in the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney, where she successfully prosecuted hundreds of adult offenders for felonies, misdemeanors, and probation violations. Milena received her Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bridgewater College, where she majored in History and Political Science with minors in Business Administration and International Studies. She is an active member of the Hampton Roads community serving on the Board of Directors for the Hampton Roads Society for Human Resource Management and the Chair-Elect for Women’s Initiative Committee for the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach.

Reuben Mendez has over 25 years of Human Resources with the last 20 years in Talent Management/Recruitment roles. Currently, he sits on various University PAC boards overseeing degrees in various program curriculum, creating souring pools, and assisting in candidate integration into the workforce. As a USAF Veteran, Reuben is heavily involved in the V3 (Virginia Values Veterans) programs and aids in military transition training. He has over 25 years of board experience in various roles in the Chamber of Commerce, where he currently serves as a Co-Chair for the Ambassador program, and in additional community related entities, such as Mission United employer board. His experience stems from his roles in military as a Force Status Controller, to serving with the Indiana Department of Training Services, to working with private business to grow and source candidates. Presently, Reuben works in Australia and the US are with private industry in securing talent to grow market share.

His current employer 360IT PARTNERS has tripled in size in the last 5 years, gaining market share and expanding services, the growth has been from 14 employees to 50 in the last 5 years. Currently 360IT PARTNERS ranks top 150 MSP’s in the world, the growth has been due to talent recruitment efforts and strategies to retain talent. Consulting roles and private holdings have allowed him to work directly and indirectly in the recruitment of approximately 16,000 professionals nationwide year to date. He has been a SHRM member for 25 years and has held various board roles in multiple states the last 20 years.

Chris Williams joined PeopleShare in 2019 as Senior Vice President for their newly acquired company, Reliance Staffing. With branches throughout the state of Virginia, Chris’s mission is to grow and expand their presence within and beyond that region.

Chris comes to PeopleShare with over 18 years of experience in the staffing industry. Prior to his current role, Chris worked for Bradley-Morris, the nation’s largest firm specializing in placing veterans into corporate careers. There, he quickly advanced through a succession of roles of increasing scope and responsibilities including Recruiter, Branch and Regional Operations Manager, Director of Staffing, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Operations.

Chris entered the staffing industry after a successful career as an Army Aviation Officer. During his time in the U.S. Army, he distinguished himself as a graduate of the Initial Entry Rotary Wing (Aviation) school, Airborne school and Air Assault school.

Chris earned undergraduate degrees in American Legal Studies and Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he was also a multiple varsity letter-winner and a member of the Dean’s list. He is a member of the West Point Society of Hampton Roads and the Hampton Roads Society for Human Resource Management. Chris currently resides in Chesapeake, VA with his wife Julia and their two sons, Anderson and Emory.
